André Dramais
Andre Dramais (June 22, 1943- February 27, 2013) was a Research Director at EcoMod, the former Director of Economic Studies and Research at the European Commission, and a former Professor of Economics at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles.
Andre Dramais was one of the pioneers in multi-national macroeconometric modeling in the world. In the late 1960s and early 1970s he has developed several multi-national macroeconometric models for the European Economic Community (European Union). In 1982 he was appointed as the Head of Division of the Econometric Modeling and Medium Term Projections Unit of the European Commission. He led this unit until 2005. He then acted as a Research Director and Advisor until his retirement from the European Commission in 2008. After his retirement he joined EcoMod as a Research Director.
During his tenure at the European Commission, Andre Dramais led the development of successive versions of the official QUEST quarterly multi-national macroeconometric model of the European Union. The model has been instrumental in the analysis and implementation of numerous key European policies and major programs since the 1980s.
Andre Dramais was also an active member of the Link project of the United Nations led by Lawrence Klein.
Andre Dramais received his bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees from the Universite Libre de Bruxelles, in economics and econometrics. He was a research fellow at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA and worked with Lawrence Klein who was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1980. Andre advised numerous countries in developing macroeconometric models including the Economic Planning Agencies of Japan and China.
